Many Hands Make Light Work
This past week, members of the Menomonie Pickleball Club came together for a day of volunteer work, installing brand new wind slats along all the fencing surrounding the courts at Wakanda Park. By the end of the day, every panel around the courts was covered, giving the space a sharper, more finished look.
Why Wind Slats Matter for Play
Wind slats might look like a simple cosmetic touch, but they make a real difference in how the game plays:
- Wind resistance: Pickleball uses a lightweight plastic ball, so even a light breeze can push shots off course. Slats woven through the fence cut down on gusts blowing across the court, helping keep rallies fair and predictable.
- Better visibility: A solid background behind the court makes it easier to track the ball during fast net exchanges.
- Fewer distractions: Slats help block out foot traffic and other park activity, so players can stay focused on their match.
- A more polished look: They also give the courts a clean, professional feel that makes Wakanda Park feel like a real pickleball destination.
Thanks to the Club
None of this happens without volunteers willing to give up their time. Thanks to members of the Menomonie Pickleball Club for the hard work! The courts play better and look better because of it.
Stop by Wakanda Park to check out the new look, and maybe bring a paddle while you're at it!
